Sex can still happen just as it always has during pregnancy. You really don’t have to alter much, just be aware of how the pregnant person is feeling and what is comfortable for her to do. As the pregnancy advances, you might find more limitations due to the size of the belly and the pain threshold of the mother. Sensitivity is likely to change throughout the pregnancy and you need to be cautious and listen to your body to determine your limitations.
Pressure, Be Careful
Pregnant women are not delicate and the womb that is protecting the baby is quite padded. A mother is made to be durable and while you don’t want her falling from high places, in general she can handle anything. That being said, pressure on the belly might be uncomfortable and should not happen for a long period of time. You can put pressure on the belly but it should not be extreme and you should keep it brief. Just like the pregnant woman should not sleep on her stomach, you should find more creative positioning to limit pressure.
Toys, External is Fine
If you are the type of couple who enjoys toys, you can still play, but you should not use insertable toys during pregnancy. You can weaken or harm the cervix which can lead to early delivery. You can use smaller toys in and around the area, but it is risky to use fully insertable toys as you might plunge a little too deeply and cause damage. While you won’t hurt the baby directly, you can upset the region.
End of the Bed
The end of the bed is a great place to work with when you are pregnant. You can prop a pillow under the woman’s buttocks and lay right at the edge. This opens up the vagina and makes insertion easy. This keeps all unnecessary pressure off the woman, the belly and the womb. This also gives the man full range of motion and can lead to a pleasurable experience for both partners.
Consult with Your Doctor
If you experience any pain or bleeding during sexual intercourse you should stop. You should consult your doctor and work past any embarrassment you might have to be as honest as possible. The doctor has heard it all and it is better for them to have all the facts rather than partial information that could lead to inaccurate or problematic information.
You can have a happy and active sex life during pregnancy. This should be an enjoyable time for you and your partner, one where you can celebrate the life you made and stay just as close as you always have. You want to make sure you are open and honest with your partner through the process, both about your interest in sex and how the activity makes you feel. The more open you are, the stronger your relationship will grow.
